Humidifiers?

Any suggestions on good humidifiers that don't cause the area around them to require towels/trash bags to avoid soaking the carpets?

My mother's asking for advice for Christmas gifts and I'm really thinking if I can find the perfect one this would be best. Because I KNOW it helps me stay healthier but I hate using the one I have because of the mess it creates!
