A Dollop of Sour Cream

I'm not much into spicy food. I have recently discovered that if a meal is just a tad too spicy for me, I can put sour cream on top and make it not just palatable, but wonderful. This blog is devoted to doing the same for life.

Cinnamon Toast

I used to love cinnamon toast. We had a little yellow bear with a red top that always had cinnamon sugar in it growing up.

Then I moved up to Washington and didn't have a toaster. Even when I bought my own place, for lack of counter space, I didn't buy a toaster. I always told myself I could always make it on the stove. Or in the oven. Or something. I sometimes made grilled cheese sandwiches on the stovetop. (Very occasionally) but that's it

After I was married, and after we rented a larger apartment, with more counter space, we shelled out the $15 for a toaster. (Cheap! IT was never about the money).. And then it sat here at home for a few months... Since I didn't have the little yellow bear with the red top. I only found ONe store that sold cinnamon sugar (and not in a nicely reusable container)-- but I was pretty sure I didn't want to buy it all the time. I wanted to make my own. FINALLY I got something from Wal-mart. And found a recipe online to start with.

But now that it is FINALLY on the counter, I'm finding myself eating 2 (or 4) slices of toast everyday... Any favorite recipes for cinnamon sugar? I just read something that suggested brown sugar instead of white that I'm going to try.

Dish scrub brush

Our last scrub brush was getting green with (evidently) mold. So I had to get a new one. (No bleach, no real desire to learn how to use bleach)

Except I got one that had a sponge on the end and you can fill it up with dishwashing soap -- to see how it worked... It works well enough. But while it's "at rest" the dishwashing soap leaks out through the sponge into the sink! NOT Frugal I do say! (And messy)

Puget Sound Worldview Conference

A pointer from Spunky Homeschool to Rare Jewel magazine -- and their worldview conferences, has reminded me of this annual thing my church has been part of.
Antioch Bible Church is partnering with Crossroad Bible Church and imagio Dei Institute to hold the 4th Annual Worldview Conference -- I've been every year and these things are VERY good. AND quite affordable. $15/student, $25/adult, max $85/family. It is April 21 and 22 this year. So if anyone's interested, keep checking that link. (or contact me and I'll get the information to you personally) I'm sure they will have a sign up sheet up soon. (It appears they have the link up already but for some reason it's not working) Two of the speakers they mention Gary Habermas and Doug Geivett, I've heard before. Gary Habermas is an expert in the resurrection of Jesus, and why is so important. Mr. Geivett is a professor in philosophy. He deals in more practical everyday topics, as well as philosophical points. I can remember in particular a couple of years back he tackled the "What about those who aren't alive when they get a particular missionary to their village" topic.

I am saddened to see Mr. Caner is not back. 1. He was loud and bold about his faith, not spooking because people don't agree. 2. Coming from a Muslim background, he's got a great view on the way they actually think.

You get to hear all of the speakers in the general session, and in between you choose a smaller session to go to on one of a variety of topics. Then at the end, they have a question and answer period when you can ask the speakers questions. There is lots of material for sale at tables from various groups, including the speakers' own works and, if that is not enough for you, you can order the speeches themselves so you can get those smaller sessions you missed, etc.

Science and religion

Where I am coming from: I believe that those who would give away a 6-day creation of a perfect world easily are undermining the very words that teach of a Jesus who comes to make that perfect world a possibility again in the future. (Though not on this earth. This earth has been destroyed by sin. Instead there will be a new heavens and a new earth at some point in the future. The important thing here is not the future but the past and the present.)

Nonetheless, I found this quote on a recent Ann Althouse post that inevitably seems to be skimming along the edge of slamming Creation. But this comment (By "Ben") I agree with. "One thing I do believe is science is not perfect and religion is never completely understood."

Knitting frustrations

I got a nice colorful "How to Knit" book geared for teens, as well as a set of size 8 needles and the recommended yarn. I dutifully took it to our bible study Sunday and tried to figure out knitting while we watched the Superbowl. Step one, slip knot on the needle, Check. I practice it four or five times to make sure I have it down one.

Step two, casting on stitches -- uh oh. I couldn't figure it out. What's more, turns out no one was there who could figure it out either :(
OTOH, I don't think God wants me to give up. I've been seated on the bus next to knitters two afternoons this week! (knitters who were actually knitting) So I got to watch and see how the fingers went and how the needles went (and the second lady was doing something with multiple colors of yarn on three needles!) And I must say it doesn't look much like the pictures in the book... On the other hand, in neither case were they actually casting on stitches.

I'm going to a craft camp this weekend. Hopefully SOmeoNe there can knit!

No more tomatoes

Okay, tomatoes are just like drugs -- they get you started cheap, then after you're addicted it gets expensive fast!

I went to the gardening store and got everything needed to replant just 3 of the plants (not 5 as I originally figured because the book says 6 plants are enough for all the needs of a family of 4!, canning and everything) And I spent $75! And I should have just left it on the counter, because one can buy a LOT of tomatoes for $75 and I'm not even sure I can keep them alive here and we are CErtAINLY not going to be here long enough to use it to amortize the cost out over time!

Does anyone know where this is?

Homemade bathroom cleaner. Goes on easily, comes off. Something like "Soft Scrub" -- may even have the name "scrubber" in it.
